Toddler Talking Time

Thanks parents for coming to our first Toddler Talking Time! During the meeting we talked a little bit about audiograms and how different hearing losses affect hearing different speech sounds. We also talked about the six Ling sounds (mm, oo, ah, sh, ee, ss).

We shared videos of children listening for the six Ling sounds and interacting with the objects associated with those sounds (ice cream = mm, ghost = oo, airplane = ah, baby = sh, mouse = ee, snake = ss). We showed a few videos at the meeting to share different ways of working with the Ling sounds. Here they are:

The Five Senses

Our current theme is the Five Senses. Activities in the classroom and pull-out sessions have included exploring smell, taste, sight, touch and sound.

The children enjoy making pudding! During this language activity we talk about opening the box, looking in the box, smelling the pudding and tasting the pudding. We also work on turn taking skills when stirring the mix (e.g., "It's my turn"). Last week, the children enjoyed saying "ouch!" or "ouch! it's hot" when we made oatmeal. This week, we are saying "brrr!" or "Brrrr! It's cold!" when touching the milk for the pudding mix.

Next week (starting January 18th), we will begin a theme related to shopping at the grocery story and going to restaurants.
